(Author's Note: This was a benchmark find in this point, my five-year search for hitchhiker graffiti.  Until this time, they were all found west of the Mississippi, most in the southwest and California, and a few in Texas.  Granted, most of my searches had been in the west, but I had wondered if the messages were easily washed away be the weather's weathering factors in places that get more rain and snow.  I had looked in some northeast spots, and always came up empty -- on I-87 in the New York City/Yonkers area, on I-95 in New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and southwest Connecticut.  I never found one message on any of the thirty or more on-ramps.  That's why this find in Pennsylvania was so telling to me.  While the writing was much less crisp--legibly speaking--showing the wear from exposure to the elements, the dates show that they can hold fast and long in more meteorologically challenging conditions.  This convinced me that there was still a wealth of data out there just waiting patiently to be collected.  Those DOT guys just have to lay off removing those poles and guardrails for upgrades and painiting over them.)
